Did You Know . . . ?

Did you know that there are literally thousands of texts on the science of meditation? …

Did you know that these texts mention as many as eight steps to fulfillment? …

Did you know that of these eight steps, meditation is the seventh step? …

Did you know that the continued study of this spiritual science will make your meditation practice a thousand times more effective? …

If you want to do something well, you need to know your subject. But most people do not believe that there is anything to know about meditation—you just do it. Most people are wrong.

We presume that sitting a certain way and employing a technique is meditation. We further presume that this will expand our consciousness and bring us more happiness, contentment, joy, peace … etc.  The presumption that we can just skip the first six steps and slip into a deep meditative state is preposterous.

If you would like to know more about meditation, join us in this series of classes. We can’t teach you everything in all those ancient texts in one-hour classes, but we can give you some bits and pieces, and we can ‘meditate’ together.

  1. Dear Durga Ma,

I am constantly amazed, delighted and full of joyous love every time I read your posts on MT! It is not only “experience” that comes through in your writing, but also the imaginative mind that can come up with such vivid, descriptive comments and explanations for such enigmatic teachings! I wonder “where in the world does such a mind spring from…?” What lifetimes have led to such brilliance? And then I realize it is God/Truth/Divine Love inspired. And there’s nothing else to say…

My experience with such teachings has been mostly involved with “feelings”, especially anger or frustration due to wanting to “accomplish” correctly and be able to follow the teachings exactly. Well, I am not there and tend to not “effort” to follow the teachings because I cannot get that there is any progress. Of course, I know this is not so, but still there is avoidance in meditation cloaked in thoughts like, “Why should I practice this when the outcome is always the same?” Or I stop before there is a chance of “failure”, as I often view it.

So what I’ve said is that I am still attached to outcomes. Error! Red Flag! I wonder how long before on the deepest level this will fall away.

Thank you for your love and insights! I have not been as faithful as I would like in reading and commenting on MT with all that is going on in “life” these days.

    1. Thank you, Ritam. But I don’t seem to be writing much of this. It just gets written and then I wait for a while and some Divine Source peeks in to proof it. It seems to me that a lot of what gets written is coming from That anyway. The process has been magical.
