How to Find Happiness on a Daily Basis – Bhagavad Gita, Ch 13, Vs 1-3, Continued

Paradise on Earth

Keys to Living Happy

Most religions have clues in their scriptures for reaching Absolute God, Absolute Goodness. In Sanskrit, they come in the form of universal principles called yama niyama. Some are even stated in the negative to represent the Absolute where there is nothing (no things) but Us.

Unfortunately, in most cases, the understanding of these one-word principles has become limited to moral codes. I’m not saying that they cannot be understood as moral codes, but there is more to it than that. Once you understand the teachings behind them and incorporate them into your life, you can reach Absolute Goodness. You won’t make it without them.

Goodness (Absolute God) can be understood by contemplating these principles and putting them into action in your everyday life. Each is only one word, but each word has several levels of meaning and understanding—several ways of describing Goodness, Absolute God, and the Real You. Your Real Self is in actuality, the same as Absolute God and is also Other-than-you — the ultimate Divine Paradox.

Ten spiritual principles describe the characteristics of God. By aligning yourself with them, the Real You emerges. Your life gets better and better, and everyone is spontaneously benefitted by your advancement.

The Whole World is One Family

When we are in sync with these principles, we are in sync with our True Selves. When we are in sync with our True Selves, we are in sync with the Absolute Goodness of Absolute God/Truth. And because what we do affects everyone, our enlightenment and consequent actions and practices advance everyone, and moves the world closer and closer to Paradise on Earth.

You can find these ten principles in my book, The Yoga of Wealth, Amazon Hard Copy $18.99. Or contact Anandi about how to join a group online or in Connecticut or Phoenix. There are also countless websites on yama niyama, but you may find that most do not go beyond moral ethics to the actual principles themselves.

Along with the book and the courses, here is something you can start doing right now:

How to Find Happiness on a Daily Basis

The key to Happiness in the here-and-now is to cultivate it here and now. There are two parts to this: (1) happiness itself, and (2) acting as if you are happy even when you’re not. Act as if you are happy and you will become happy. This works because it is already so, you are already eternally happy. You just don’t know it yet. You have only to access this divine characteristic of yours.

By replicating happiness, you are that much closer to Real Happiness. All of your miseries, pain, grief and sorrows, can be overcome by this simple practice. You just have to remind yourself of it when misery raises its ugly head. You won’t become an expert all at once, but you will be surprised at how quickly you can slip into happiness this way, even if it doesn’t last. (Then just do it again.)

The trick is to not let this approach be an excuse for going into denial about how rotten you feel, but to remember that your path is to know and sync with your true nature as a Divine Individual who is Eternally Happy. In other words, Happiness is always there, always with you because God/Truth is always with you, in you, as you.

What can it hurt to give it a try?

  1. You’re feeling rotten — mentally, emotionally or physically. Doesn’t matter.
  2. You remind yourself that real Happiness is somewhere in or around you.
  3. Smile, even if you don’t mean it. Smiling releases serotonin, a natural chemical in the body that elevates the body, feelings and mind, and reduces pain and unhappiness, and many other unwanted visitors.
  4. Act as if you are happy until you feel genuinely happy. You will be surprised how quickly this can turn on.

There is another key that is effective in getting Happiness to increase and become more constant. It is the completion of Hatha Yoga (more or less) and some familiarity with Raja Yoga. This will take you to the source of happiness. Having reached it, you will be able to cultivate a greater happiness on an everyday basis and increase its constancy.

So if you want to take Happiness to the next level, you need to practice Real Yoga. Then, all the wonderful experiences this has brought you can be recalled to remind you of the joy and happiness you experienced. A smile will show up on its own as you slip into the state of Happiness generated by these memories.

Namaste (I bow to the divine one you really are),

Are You a Spiritual Leader?

Are you a spiritual leader in hiding? Take this short self-survey and to see if you fit any or all of them:

  • Do you feel deep down that your life has a purpose, but you are a little uncertain as to what that is, and you struggle with taking action?
  • Do you get inspired at the possibility of being a spiritual leader, but struggle to act on it?
  • You know that you are meant to have a positive impact on the world in a big way. Are you unsure of how to do this while maintaining your current responsibilities?

If you fit any of these, you are probably a natural Spiritual Leader, and this is something I can help you with. I am interested in hearing your story, so on this page, under “Subject,” please write “Spiritual Leadership,” and tell me about it.
